This Saturday marks the first events in 14 months to return in the USA! Since March last year many of us will be able to visit our local event and meet in person at a parkrun. Almost all of us have been waiting eagerly for this and we’re thrilled that such an important part of our lives, to meet socially and go for a run or walk, is back.
The best way to find out if your event is operating this Saturday is to check your local event’s news and social media pages. As we have all seen in the past year, conditions with restrictions and infection rates can change rapidly so please be patient if developments take an unexpected turn.
The return of our events comes at an important time as we will soon be celebrating our 9th birthday in the US. This time of year is normally a time for celebration and reflection and it will be even more so this year as we consider the journey we’ve been through, and be thankful for the events that we have back with a note to mark those events that are still yet to return.
The complete relaunch process will be a gradual one. We expect ten events to open this weekend with around six or seven the week after. We continue to work with event teams in ensuring they can operate within local and state guidelines, as well as our own parkrun COVID-19 framework. This will take time so please support your local team by being patient if we haven’t yet been able to find an opportunity for your event to return yet.
For those that are able to visit their parkrun soon, please do work with any guidance offered by the event team, and follow the parkrun walker and runner code, and for volunteers the volunteer code.
Once again, we are grateful for your patience. If you are able to then please enjoy parkrun this weekend. Do bear with us as we roll more events out!
After a big life move, Naomi Dawson found herself in a brand new country, knowing nobody. Local parkruns helped her integrate into new communities, and make many long-lasting friendships along the way. I wasn’t a runner, never had been. Then, in 2013, someone told me about parkrun. I completed the Couch to 5k programme, after…
The first parkrun in Poland took place on 15 October 2011. Back in the autumn of 2011, when five participants arrived at the very first Polish location, parkrun Gdynia, no one…
