Into Summer!

South Boulder Creek2021-06-28 at 16.58.43

Last week it was a hot and humid affair for most events, but still we had a great attendance.  This week might see cooler temperatures (especially if you are in the North West) as we celebrate Independence Day.

  •  28 events
  •  1,174 parkrunners
  •  268 volunteers
  •  204 first timers

It was a busy week last week with milestones including Durham NC parkrun which turned 8!  To help celebrate and mark the occasion the volunteers chalked some impressive stats on the course. The event started in 2013 and was the third in the country.  We have a blog piece written on their 5th birthday which recounts the story of how the event began.

Talking of milestones, we would also like to congratulate Sippo Lake on their 50th event.  It’s been a long time coming as the event started in April 2019, but we’re happy it did happen eventually!

As mentioned in the header, it was a muggy Saturday for many!  Deep Run and Eagan were feeling it particularly but we think it was like that most places in the North East and Midwest!

Canyon Rim Trail is getting into the swing of things and are taking tips from their Base jumping neighbours. It is a spectacular venue not only for parkrun, but for sightseeing and if you are inclined to jump into canyons with a parachute looks like a great way to blow of some post-parkrun excitement.  It was a breezy one last weekend but we are still to hear the first person to do the parkrun-basejump double.  Anyone?

Kensington parkrun are keeping secrets from us they celebrate their 5,000th finisher, but we have to wait to find out who it is!  We’re confident it can be calculated from the results but we will wait for the official announcement on their news page.

Valentine Peak event #3 was another success.  USA’s newest event is finding it’s stride and this week welcomed Sergey who despite from Moscow, currently lives in Seattle.  Sergey has clocked up 191 parkruns and has proven himself to be quite the tourist.  He is 4th in the ‘most events’ table for the USA, and globally has clocked up a visit at 119 different events!

This weekend see Independence Day on Sunday, so obviously that is cause to celebrate at parkrun on Saturday.  We look forward to seeing photos filled with red, white and blue next week!

Happy parkwalk month! October is all about promoting and celebrating everyone at parkrun regardless of pace. Fall is in the air across much of the US. While the temperatures are dropping, the heat is still on at your local parkrun. And we’ve got proof. Let’s take a look at what you got up to last weekend:     At Spindle Tree parkrun outside of Houston, Imogen finished her tenth parkrun. Did you know that…
