parkrun week in pictures: 19 February

What a great weekend for parkrun USA! We had 1,426 finishers at 41 different parkrun events around the country. 362 parkrunners helped fill the volunteer roles and 216 attended an event for the first time. We saw some more Valentine’s Day celebrations so let’s take a look at the pictures:

canyon rim trail 1

Canyon Rim Trail parkrun had beautiful blue skies above their epic view on Saturday morning, along with one of our favorite things: a tailwalker with an actual tail!

renton 2

What’s your favorite milestone shirt to wear? How many have you reached? Are you close to your next one? Wear your milestone shirt with pride, knowing how much you’ve accomplished – just like this 25 club member at Renton parkrun. All habits start somewhere, after this Saturday you could be one step closer to your next milestone.

deep run 1

It was nice and sunny at Deep Run parkrun in Virginia. They had 30 finishers, one of their highest turn outs for the year! Spring is just around the corner.

roosevelt 1

Have you tried tailwalking at parkrun? It’s one of the easiest roles, just walk your 5k as normal and you can even help pick up the cones and signs on the way back in! Especially on out and back courses (or multiple loop courses) you get to see everyone go by and give them a cheer. And the best part? You’re there so that no matter what, nobody finishes last.

des moines creek

It may be nearly spring, but Des Moines Creek parkrun in the pacific northwest was still feeling the chill. At least they had the extra layer of the high-vis volunteer vests to keep them warm.

college park 1

College Park parkrun got a taste of spring in the DC area last weekend – and more than 150 parkrunners were out enjoying the day. They had walkers, joggers, volunteers, first timers, long-time returners, and everything in between. What a beautiful morning for parkrun.

fletcher's cove 1

One of our favorite volunteer roles is the first timers briefing. This quick briefing happens before the regular run briefing, and is for anyone who is new to that parkrun event. It orients our first timers to what parkrun is all about, and gives them some time to ask questions and learn the course. Do you remember your first parkrun? Was there a first timers briefing?

leakin park 1

Raise your hands if you love parkrun! We sure do - Leakin Park parkrun was enjoying some of the same nice weather as College Park parkrun. But hey, it wouldn’t be a week in pictures newsletter if we didn’t say it at least once – every weather is perfect parkrunning weather!

perrigo 1

Perrigo parkrun celebrated their 75th event and a few milestones.  What better way to celebrate milestones with superhero capes? Red is the color of 50, which is 50 parkruns completed. That’s pretty superhero-like to us!

charleston 1

It was a windy one at Charleston WV parkrun last weekend, so windy they had to hold the flag in place!

joe creason 1

There were so many cute pups at Joe Creason parkrun in Louisville, Kentucky last weekend. Remember, one barkrunner per parkrunner, but bring your pal out for a 5k, it’s a great way to spend your Saturday morning together.

creekside 1

Sometimes you just have to take yourself for a walk, all the way to parkrun for a lovely Saturday morning 5k. This barkrunner at Creekside parkrun knew exactly what the deal was – it’s parkrun time!

livonia 1

Livonia parkrun had a super special parkrunner this past weekend. Back in 2012, Lori was part of the team that created the first ever parkrun in the USA and she’s back for more.

courthouse lake 1

The volunteers at Courthouse Lake parkrun were all bundled up for a chilly morning. But hey, that’s Minnesota for you!

lillie 1

After having to cancel last week due to ice on the course, Lillie parkrun finally got to celebrate Valentine’s Day. And there were tutus involved. Should tutus at parkrun become a regular thing? We don’t see why not!

kensington 1

Here’s the top notch high-vis crew at Kensington parkrun.

We’ll see you next week for the last parkrun of February.

Volunteering is the fabric of parkrun

Volunteers across the board, whatever their role, are fundamental to the long-term success of parkrun. They are the social glue that holds everything together and are one of the factors that make parkrun so special. On parkrun’s 19th anniversary we’d like to celebrate these wonderful people.    Since the first event in 2004, we have significantly…

How to pick the best sports bra for you

You can wear anything when you join in at parkrun – a suit, shorts, jeans or even fancy dress. We want everyone to enjoy parkrun and being comfortable in what you’re wearing is crucial. If you’re going to move a lot, walk, or run you might want to consider using a sports bra. We chatted…
