parkrun and World Athletics team up to leave legacy in Eugene and Springfield

  • parkrun and World Athletics to empower community to open more parkrun events in Oregon, starting in Eugene and Springfield
  • parkruns are free, weekly, community 5k events open to everyone as walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers
  • Eugene and Springfield to benefit from legacy event from World Championships.

parkrun and World Athletics have committed to helping the Eugene and Springfield communities open parkrun events, as a legacy of the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, held in venues across both cities.

With one existing parkrun event already in Oregon, this will increase the number of opportunities for citizens and visitors of the state to be active and social in the great outdoors.

The first event from this collaboration is planned to launch in the fall, paving the way for many more across the state and beyond.

North America Territory Manager Euan Bowman said:

“We’re thrilled to be working with World Athletics to help more people be social and active outdoors within their local community. These legacy parkrun events will be beneficial to all in the Eugene and Springfield area, and we’re really looking forward to launching that first event in the fall.”

parkrun is a UK based charity supporting in excess of 200,000 people to take part in free, socially-focused, physical activity every weekend in public areas of open space. Events in the USA take place in 53 active locations, with one currently in Oregon.

The first parkrun took place on 2 October 2004 with 13 runners and 5 volunteers in London’s Bushy Park, there are now more than 2,200 parkrun locations in 21 countries.

More than 7,000,000 people have registered for parkrun and over half a million people have volunteered worldwide.

parkruns are entirely volunteer led, and open to anyone of any age, ability, or background to participate.

parkrun is a place where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or just come along and watch.

Attendance record! We blew our previous record out of the water with a whopping 2,364 finishers across 52 events, amazing!
