Summer is in full swing here in the USA and parkrunners are loving it! We say every weather is perfect parkrunning weather, but a sunny morning during summer vacation really is perfect parkrunning weather. Across the country last weekend we had a record breaking 53 events that saw 2,085 finishers – our second week in a row above 2,000!
We also set a record for number of volunteers, breaking 500 for the first time ever with a total of 508. And 336 parkrunners finished a parkrun for the first time. What a great week all around! And now for what you’ve all been waiting for… Let’s take a look at the pictures.
Just one of our top-notch volunteers from the weekend handing out finish tokens at Anacostia parkrun in DC.
Just in case you couldn’t already tell, we really really love our volunteers! This group at Baltimore and Annapolis Trail parkrun helped create the magic at parkrun, along with over 500 others across the country.
Have you ever considered volunteering for some of the finish line roles? Timekeepers and finish token dispensers get to be the frontlines of cheering as parkrunners finish that 5k, and they get to look cute in a high vis vest while doing it. Last weekend at Byxbee parkrun it sure looked like fun!
Just a pair of seasoned volunteers working on the results at post-parkrun coffee after Charleston WV parkrun! Shoutout to all of our volunteers who work hard with their lattes to ensure you get your finish email as soon as possible.
City Park parkrun, Iowa in Iowa City is looking green and gorgeous! Who cares about the *slight* humidity when it looks as fresh and summery as that, right?
Coler Mountain Bike Preserve parkrun in Arkansas is only on its second week but has had multiple tourists! It fills a geographical parkrun gap in the south, just near the corner of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. If you’ve got a vacation to the southern great plains coming up, this is the parkrun for you!
It was a hot one in the DC area last weekend, but College Park parkrun came prepared with popsicles at the finish line to help cool everyone down. These course marshals were celebrating a birthday this weekend, and what better way to celebrate than by volunteering? This isn’t scientifically proven but there might be some evidence that wearing a high-vis volunteer vests makes you cool enough that you really will feel more comfortable in hot temperatures… Don’t believe us? Sign up to volunteer and test it out for yourself!
Thumbs up if you love parkrun! It was gorgeous at Courthouse Lake parkrun in Chaska, Minnesota and there were plenty of smiles out on the course.
We just can’t get over how happy everyone always looks in the photos from Creekside parkrun in North Carolina!
Danehy Park parkrun really does have a beautiful course. One of two parkruns in the Boston area, it’s a great location for a parkrun.
It was a week for the barkrunners at Deep Run parkrun in Virginia! Bring along your furry pals for a great Saturday morning. All they need is a short, hand held leash and you’re set!
Delaware and Raritan Canal parkrun in New Jersey showed us just how small the world can be when you’re into parkrun… Steve and Jane were touristing from England and ran into a fellow Brit who was from the same area as them back home, whose local run is now here in New Jersey. You’ll meet parkrunners wherever you go!
Love the chalk art at Depot Park parkrun in Florida. #loveparkrun
Was it really just a few months ago that we were marvelling at how brown Fletcher’s Cove parkrun was? Summer is definitely in full swing with all of that color! Oh, and the volunteer vests definitely add to the fun ambiance.
A little pre-parkrun volunteer briefing by Run Director Tom at Hamlet Park parkrun, one of the three parkruns in Minnesota. If it’s your first time volunteering, don’t worry! Other volunteers, especially the RD, will be able to help show you the ropes.
Raise your hands if you love parkrun! At Joe Creason parkrun in Louisville, KY they sure do.
It sure was toasty at Leakin Park parkrun last weekend, but parkrunning with a friend makes everything better!
Little Sugar Creek Greenway parkrun had a great second week as quite a few parkrunners came back for more. They’re one of three parkruns in North Carolina, bumping the state into second place for most parkruns!
Two thumbs up for parkrun! Chris was repping a brand new r25 milestone shirt at Livonia parkrun last weekend – just about 24 more parkruns until your next milestone!
Mansfield OH parkrun had some exciting chalk art for their turnaround point. What a great way to celebrate that you’re halfway done!
What an awesome turn out for Merrymeeting parkrun in Maine! They’re one of our newer events, and we love to see the momentum start to grow.
We really do love all those jump shots! Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation parkrun was absolutely gorgeous at the weekend, so much green and so summery!
Shoutout to these awesome volunteers at Osborn MetroPark parkrun last weekend! Having a great base of volunteers is necessary for a successful young parkrun and we love to see it here.
If your parkrun has a local coffee spot that they meet at afterwards, we strongly recommend giving it a try! You can chat with other parkrunners, meet someone new and maybe even see how results are processed.
Does your parkrun have a landmark like Perrigo parkrun’s red barn? We love being able to identify our USA parkruns from just one photo.
Across the grass they go at Rec Plex North parkrun down in Florida! Florida is working on starting their fifth parkrun event.
This photo just kind of proves parkrunners are superheroes? I mean, look at that cape. It may also be because Renton parkrun recognizes milestones (like Ryan’s 50th!) with super cute capes, or we’re all superheroes… You decide!
So many great things to see at Rock Creek Trail parkrun! Course marshal, tailwalker, parkrunners having a blast, what more could we ask for?
It was nice and shady through the trees at Roosevelt Island parkrun in DC, perfect for a sweltering summer Saturday like the one we just had.
And off they go at Sippo Lake parkrun!
Nothing better than a course marshal to cheer everyone on as they go past! South Boulder Creek parkrun definitely knows how to foster a fun environment.
Spindle Tree parkrun hosted their 27th event last weekend, all made possible by the amazing volunteers we get each week. Thanks to everyone who helps out!
And last but definitely not least… We welcomed a brand new parkrun to our ranks last weekend! Winthrop Trailhead parkrun became the 4th parkrun in the state of Washington with a wildly successful inaugural. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for you!
See you next week!
Attendance record! We blew our previous record out of the water with a whopping 2,364 finishers across 52 events, amazing! Summer really is in full swing and clearly, parkrun is the place to be on Saturday mornings. 510 super volunteers helped out around the country and we welcomed 357 parkrunners to their first ever event….
There’s no need to do the 5k at parkrun. Lois Rowland was a parkrun volunteer for more than ten years before eventually deciding to have a go at the 5k, following an ectopic pregnancy. Having now completed 50 parkruns, she tells us her story. My husband is a keen parkrunner and has been taking…
