Trail or Road Running? Road

Number of parkruns completed: 250 between the family

How has parkrun changed your running / fitness? It helped us to keep up with our son’s energy levels. Now we can run and play with him without getting tired.

Favourite volunteer role: Run Director for Johan and Marshal for Tania and Tihan.

Number of volunteering occasions: 92 between the family

What do you like about volunteering at parkrun? It is a nice family outing where you can meet new friends

Why should others volunteer at parkrun? The people you meet and the fun atmosphere is already a great reason. Seeing the joy on the runner’s faces when you cheer them on is another good reason.

Most memorable or funniest parkrun moment: When “Father Christmas” Ron showed up at the parkrun. The children were absolutely overjoyed

What fellow volunteers say about them: Johan, Tania and Tihan have been part of our parkrun and volunteer family since 2015. Johan is one of our regular Run Directors and Result Processors while Tania and Tihan are often seen on the route as marshals and also sort the tokens while Johan is busy processing the results. Tihan is the youngest parkrunner who have achieved his 50th milestone at Hartenbos parkrun to date. They always join in the fun by dressing up when we have our themed parkruns and their creative juices flow freely for these occasions. They are a true example of how parkrun can be fun for the whole family – whether you participate as runners or as volunteers.
