Divan Gerber started parkrunning as an 8-year-old when we started Mogol parkrun on 14 June 2014. Through all his primary school activities he managed to still get his parkrun fix almost every Saturday morning. He is also one of the core team volunteers at Mogol parkrun.
On Saturday 18 January 2020 he completed his 250th parkrun making him only the 4th Limpopo based parkrunner to reach that milestone. Being actively involved in parkrun from such a young age really did influence his development on a physical and social level.
Interacting with all the other parkrunners at the 76 different parkruns he has completed, ensured that he learned what the community spirit of parkrun is all about.
The role parkrun has played in him physically developing from a little boy to the athlete that he is at age 13 can not be denied.
Thank you parkrun for being a vital part of my getting off the couch on the journey to a healthier, fitter, lighter me.
On 31 May 2014 I walked my first parkrun weighing 153kg, a month after a massive Gallbladder and Hernia repair operation. I finished 151 out of a field of 154 runners in 01.05.05. Last Saturday I ran my second PB for the year in 46.27 at Langenhoven parkrun. Along the way I lost 63kg. It all started with that first parkrun.
Today I gym on average 5 times a week alternating between swimming, yoga, treadmill and weights. At 53 almost 54 I am in the best shape since high school when I played Provincial tennis. My favourite part of parkrun is cheering on the walkers and runners at the back of the pack and sharing my story of hope. Because I know if you start with that one parkrun its the first step in a journey leading you to a better version of yourself.
Earlier this week we announced we had completed our COVID-19 Framework, describing how events will operate in countries where an underlying level of community infection still remains. We’d also like to stress that as part of our strategy to return we took the decision to separate defining the way events should be reopened, from…
As I took to the road yesterday, another glorious meeting up with fellow parkrunners, suitably masked and keeping our obligatory distance, I could not help but think how important these moments of meeting on a Saturday morning have become for me. Now in our 5th month of lockdown and for many who live on their…
