Last week I celebrated 3 decades on earth. What an amazing experience – BUT this life long experience of mine was possible due to many many people with whom I crossed paths along the way.
The most incredible of all is getting yourself into silly situations (like being convinced to try out a parkrun just once) Haha! You all know how the story goes… That is how my story started!
I was fortunate enough with assistance (of the people who encouraged me into my first parkrun) to initiate and start Hartenbos parkrun. I still remember the days before the first ever Hartenbos parkrun.
On the route busy prepping and getting ready for launch day (with a couple of volunteers lined up for the BIG DAY) a couple came out of nowhere and offered to help with the setup. In the above photo you will see Tannie Rhenia volunteering on the first day in 2015. This was the very first memory I cherish of her and Oom Jackie. If it weren’t for their help and every other volunteer and parkrunner over these many years Outeniquasbosch parkrun wouldn’t exist today. I would’ve still been without a close knit community and parkrun family. We shared good times, joy, sweat, heartache and tears as a community together.
During these crazy times lets stay connected and check in with each other, share your parkrun memories and pictures of your first ever parkrun on your home parkrun’s facebook page.
I miss my Hartenbos/Outeniquasbosch parkrun family! You guys ROCK!
I am in the green shirt, above, at my first parkrun; event #2 at the first Hartenbos venue on 21st March 2015. Wow that’s over 5 years ago now almost 200 parkruns completed. It’s crazy how time flies.
I’m 71 now and I can’t wait for parkrun to start again. More than anything I miss my parkrun people.
This was my very first group volunteer photo at parkrun, back in September 2015.

Earlier this week we announced we had completed our COVID-19 Framework, describing how events will operate in countries where an underlying level of community infection still remains. We’d also like to stress that as part of our strategy to return we took the decision to separate defining the way events should be reopened, from…
As I took to the road yesterday, another glorious meeting up with fellow parkrunners, suitably masked and keeping our obligatory distance, I could not help but think how important these moments of meeting on a Saturday morning have become for me. Now in our 5th month of lockdown and for many who live on their…
