Fish Hoek parkrun turns Seven

fish hoek

On 19 December, Fish Hoek parkrun celebrated its 7th birthday. Normally, we at Fish Hoek parkrun would have organised a big birthday bash, with cakes, cookies and other treats donated by our parkrunners to enjoy after our parkrun. We would have enjoyed some socialising and fun times with our parkrun buddies. Sadly, this year, we could not invite anybody to such a bash.

Instead, most of our parkrunners and regular contributors to our weekly album ran their (not)parkrun wherever and whenever they were able to and then forwarded their pictures to us. As usual, during the last couple of weeks, a small group of parkrunners met at their favourite outdoor spot after their (not)parkun, while enjoying a coffee-to-go and a chat with friends. Their outfits added a splash of colour to the informal gathering.

Of course, there were those that ran their 5K in other parts of our Valley, forwarding their selfies and pictures of fellow (not)parkrunners to us. There are so many possibilities for a good run or walk in our Valley to stay fit and healthy and enjoy the great outdoors.

Under normal circumstances, we ask for donations of pre-loved sports items on our birthday, and our parkrunners didn’t disappoint this time either. Even though, we did not have an official parkrun and birthday party, we received generous donations of pre-loved sports items, shoes and clothes from our parkrunners to give to those less fortunate. The donations will go towards those, who have lost their homes in the devastating fire in Masiphumelele this past Thursday. Some of our young parkrunners are amongst those affected.

Last but not least, we want to thank all Fish Hoek parkrunners for their continued support in forwarding their pictures to us for a weekly album, which would not have been possible without YOUR help. We wish all of you a peaceful Festive Season and look forward to seeing you again in 2021, even if it is only via your pictures for the weeks to come.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update 19 January

On Saturday we welcomed parkrun events back across the Australian state of Victoria, in a wonderful celebration of all that we love about parkrun. In 2020 people there experienced a long and incredibly restrictive lockdown, which must have been doubly challenging as other Australian states reopened and returned to normal life.   Throughout those incredibly…
