On 8 January 2022 I took a decision to change many aspects of my life including physical weight, fitness and diet. My goal was to get myself to a healthier weight for my size, which I’ve almost achieved, but the additional benefits of this journey have been amazing. We all hear about getting exercise, eating a balanced diet and drinking enough water and so on, but we rarely hear about the overall impact these can all have on your life.
I’ve been a rather inconsistent parkrunner, finding all the excuses in the world on a Saturday morning, not to get up. Now, I can’t wait for the weekend and having Midstream parkrun as the start of my fitness week.
As I embarked on my health and fitness plan, I was hit with two bouts of COVID, some time in ICU and long lasting problems with my lungs, it did prove to be a challenge. However, I set my own goals, and continued into September when I was probably managing to exercise four to five times a week, which included running and going to the gym.
parkrun remains my favourite activity though, even through the cold winter mornings. It’s probably because it’s outdoors and the only pressure is what you decide to put on yourself.
In September I picked up a hamstring injury which has limited my progress but not stopped me from exercising. I’ve walked the last few parkruns and this has allowed me to walk with my daughter who is on her own journey. I hope to get back to full ‘leg’ fitness soon and continue to improve my times at parkrun.
Here’s a few of my health statistics for 2022 up until October:
